Top Chef Masters

Blogging has definitely gotten in the way of my tv viewing.  Which is mostly a good thing – not that I was a big tv junkie before the birth of Wicked Domestic.  But I do watch significantly less during the week than I used to.  Instead, I’m writing blogs, editing blogs, and reading other blogs.  Blogs blogs blogs.   On weekends Matt and I catch up on our favorite shows – all Thursday night NBC shows, Friday Night Lights (I do love that Tim Riggins), and Modern Family.  But I have a dvr’d stash of reality tv that I can only watch when Matt works late; he’s more than willing to let me watch my shows, but I’m too nice a wife to make him watch The Real World/Road Rules Challenge Season 58.  And yes, that is approximately the quality of my reality tv habit.  I don’t watch normal shows like Dancing With the Stars or The Bachelor like the rest of the world… instead, I harbor a shameful love of MTV reality shows.  I used to break it up a bit with  The Biggest Loser, but it got to be too much of a commitment – I mean, 2 hours a week?  Really?  To quote our friend Matt C., “That show could be condensed into a really compelling 30 minute episode.”  Agreed.

My newest reality show obsession is Top Chef Masters.  I had never been a big Bravo watcher (too devoted to MTV, I guess), but one day I randomly caught the final challenge from last season… and was totally hooked.  I instantly set the dvr to all future episodes, and I’ve been a devotee ever since.   How did I not know that I’d love this show?  Cooking, restaurants, and reality tv?  Sign me up!

Top Chef Masters takes famous chefs from all around the country and has them compete in a series of competitions for charity.   I’m interested in chefs – their backgrounds, their restaurants, their styles.  So it’s really cool to see them in action.  The only chef whose restaurant I had been to was Susan Feniger of the Border Grill in Las Vegas.  My meal there was pretty awesome, and she is a total hoot.  Very upbeat, so friendly - fun to watch.  There were two local chefs this season: Ana Sortun of Oleana (she was booted in the first round) and Jody Adams of Rialto.  Jody made it pretty far, so I got more  invested in her.

Now I’m DYING to go to Rialto.  I’m a menu junkie, so of course I’ve checked it out.   Multiple times.  If someone were to take me there for dinner tomorrow (anyone?  Bueller?) I would totally get the grilled littlenecks with andouille and toasted garlic bread, then the seared scallops with spring turnip puree, rhubarb, and chanterelles.   A girl can dream.

Speaking of dreaming, if I had a benefactor who would send me on this little bicycle jaunt through Italy with Jody, Jody Adams Italy, I would be more than happy to blog about my experiences.

Jody’s charity was Partners in Health, an organization that provides medical and health support all over the world.  Check out the Rialto side dish menu – all proceeds from this portion of the menu are donated to Partners in Health’s Stand With Haiti campaign.  How cool is that?!

As I blog, the season finale of Top Chef Masters is airing.  Who will walk away with $100,000 for their charity?  I can’t wait to find out!

I’m hooked on this show, too. I will catch up on the finale this weekend. Can’t wait. If you like Top Chef Masters, you will probably like the regular Top Chef. That one is aspiring chefs, but basically the same idea – same challenges, judging, etc. You should check that one out when it comes back.

I’m so stressed! There is SO much on my dvr! This is too overwhelming! I’ll never be able to watch it all!
